Octavio yawns and stretches, landing on his chaise lounge with a thunf. It seemed like forever since he’d had a moment to himself, what with all the meetings and projects and ceremonies and paperwork. Tay hadn’t really understood the gravity of being emperor some five years ago, but now that he’d taken responsibility, it seemed ever-present.

He’d finished for today, though. There had to be some balance between work and life—he couldn’t lie around all day like he used to, but he couldn’t do a 160-hour workweek either. It would be better to have a daily cut-off so he could relax without thinking about the future of the Octarian empire (inevitable), starting today.

Despite this, he decides to switch on his shellphone. It had been blowing up with messages recently, so he’d just turned it off to forget. If anyone REALLY wanted to speak with him, they should just ask in person. Scrolling through, he ignores all the ones that are definitely work related, before stopping and gazing in horror. Several missed texts from Lulu!

How long had it been since their last meet-up? He’d had all eight tentacles tied up with everything. At least she was probably busy too, what with her new ruling responsibilities, her husband—AND HER PREGNANCY?!—instead of reading through what he’s missed, he dials her number.

“Hello?! I JUST got your messages, is everything alright with you? Got time to come over?? This is a formal invitation—”

“Aww, that sounds sweet. The splatfest are great festivals to hang out at. Usually Collin and I make time at least one night for a date. I bet she really apricated it,” Lulu hummed.

“So important stuff. Always good to talk about that stuff to know which path you guys are taking and whether it aligns or not. Always be open ears to ideas thought. Lulu convinced me to stay in the valley. I wanted us to move out into the city. Heh, glad I listened. Her folks are helpful,” Collin chuckled.

“He’s fine. Still a squishy and not use to every sensation,” Collin remarked to Tay’s comment.

Once on the music, Lulu listened in. Liking what Tay was saying, she wrote things down; Collin taking Seth to give Lulu space to write notes.

“Course I’m up for performing. Though, still got a bit of baby weight I still got to burn off,” Lulu chuckled, “Pants aren’t fitting the same. But once ready, totally ready to perform. I just hope the octarians here are receptive to me. I want to give them a good performance and them have a good time.”

Tasting the tea, both Lulu and Collin seemed pleased.

“Thank you Tay. This is wonderful,” Lulu hummed.

Hearing that they were already dating, Lulu eyes lit up.

“Ooooh, what did you do first date?? Did you take her to the splatfest stalls or did you take her somewhere fancy?? Details,” Lulu hummed; excited to hear things.

Collin just chuckled.

“We can keep it a secret,” Collin chuckled, “Though, I curious. What have you guys talked about?”

Sucking on the keys, Seth noticed the cup his mother had. Close enough, Seth touched it before giving out a squeak. Startled, Lulu grabbed up her son up with her tentacles to comfort him; tears forming around his little eyes.

“Say did you hurt your tentacle? Awww, my poor squishy! It’s okay! Mommy is here,” Lulu cooed in comfort.

Getting Seth to settle back down, Lulu set the cup to the side.

“Kids,” Lulu remarked.

Giving a sigh that his son was okay, Collin remarked, “Yes, music. Lulu’s been working on things in her spare time. She’s really excited.”

“Yes! Let me explain the ideas I have,” Lulu replied; once knowing her son was okay.

A long list of things, Lulu explained the music work she had written down for Tay and the ideas she had come up with since the last time they talked; furthering the work she had done while also rewriting some things.

“The reason I changed the vocal notes is because it may not be something most can hit. I can hit a high pitch pretty well but I know Tarts stays on lower keys. So I wanted to make sure it was something anybody could sing along to,” Lulu explained.

“Now you think to get a second phone?” Collin jokes.

Jabbing at her husband, Lulu pouts at him as Collin laughs.

“Don’t mind him. He has a habit of breaking his,” Lulu commented.

Waving off Tay’s concerns, Lulu chuckled.

“I would love to hear if any progress with your lady of interest. And I won’t tell a soul. Grandpa doesn’t even know yet. How good grandma is about keeping her mouth closed about family personal business. But let’s get seated first,” Lulu replied.

Getting herself settled, Lulu sets Seth in her laugh as the baby octoling is huffing and squeaking his new toy was taken from him. Though pulling a key ring out of the backpack, Lulu jingles it as it catches Seth attention. Trying to grab for it, Lulu sets it down gently as Seth scoots onto it and starts to wrap his tiny tentacles on the rings and toy keys; beginning to chew on it with his beak.

“Gets him to calm down every time,” Lulu jokes, “And tea would be fine Tay.”

“Tea would be great. If you got any lemons slices, drop some in mine,” Collin commented.

Once everybody was settled, Lulu pulled a small note pad with her own notes as Seth was chewing away on the key ring.

“So, how are things? Have you talked to her?” Lulu asked.

It takes him a few tries, but Seth finally grabs onto Tay’s hand. Still too young to get suckers to attach, he just wraps his tiny tentacle around a finger before tugging.

“He thinks everything is some kind of play toy. He loves affection and attention,” Collin chuckled.

Looking at his father before looking back at Tay, he gives a small squeak before tugging at Tay’s finger again.

Hearing Tay, Lulu just chuckled.

“Nah, it’s my fault too. I’ve been busy as well. I knew grandpa was busy, but now in his chair, I never knew how busy. It’s a lot and then I got motherhood on top of it, I just haven’t reached out to a lot of friends like I should have,” Lulu replied, “That being said, how have things been? Adjusting to the hot seat okay? How about that girl? Made a move yet?”

“There is a lot of opportunities for him, so will have to see. He has a whole life of opportunities and can’t wait to be there for them,” Collin chuckled.

“Collin is really enjoying parenthood and being a dad. He’s so helpful. Don’t know what I would do without him,” Lulu remarked with a slight blush, “Why don’t we take a seat and catch up on the music we were trying to work on.”

Fiddling in the backpack, still able to hold onto Seth as she slipped his tentacle off Tay’s finger, to a huffy Set, as Collin helped her, Lulu pulled out a folder when she took a seat on the couch.

“I’ve actually done some more drafting on music and lyrics if you want to look,” Lulu commented as she held out the folder.

Lulu was playing with Seth on the floor when her phone next to her went off. Answering it, the surprise shouting and concern made her chuckle.

“Hey Tay. I’m okay. Just playing with my son. Collin went to the grocery store with mom so just give it thirty minutes and we’ll be over. I’ll bring over the music stuff too,” Lulu chuckled, “See you in a bit.”

More like 45 minutes and the couple was walking through a portal; small bag in Collin’s hand as Lulu was carrying Seth.

HI! Come say hi to Seth,“ Lulu chuckled as she held her son out.

Still a bit tiny, the baby octoling was looking around with bright purple eyes before spotting Tay. Looking at him, he held a tentacle up as if to try and grab something.

"Labor was exhausting but it went quick,” Lulu commented, “Hatch during the day so got to see his first hours.”

Collin was just grinning as Lulu talked.

“Vio has been a happy octo and Athena just spoils him. Precious balances things and helps Lulu out when need be but for the most part we got things. Heheh, look at my little rascal. Grow up to be a great musician one day,” Collin chuckled.

“He doesn’t have to go into music. He can find his own path. I just want him healthy and happy,” Lulu spoke, rubbing her son’s face.

“Hey Yo! It’s splatfest time!!! Let’s see those cheers!!” DJ Sunshine calls out.

“Which team are you on? Are you Team Nessie? Come on my fellow squids, let’s hit the waters and explore the deep depths to find the hidden fossil of the deep,” Marie calls out.

“Are you Team Aliens with me?” DJ Sunshine laughs, “Let’s rev up those octo and squid engines and hit the skies as we explore different planets and nab us some extraterrestrial beings!”

“Or are you Team Bigfoot as we grab our camping gear and hit the forest to nab some pics of the fabled beast!” Callie called out.

“Pick your Tee’s and choose a Team!! As always, Stay Fresh!” the girls call out.

“It’s called hair T,” Lutarna huffed with annoyance.

The tension between the two always annoyed her but she kept her cool as she knew he meant well but was stubborn about believe anything she said half the time.

Waiting and hearing the child speak, Lutarna gave a clap with encouragement.

“There you go sweetheart. That’s it,” Lutarna hummed.

Getting back up, she gave T a smirk and a look of, “Yeah sure, I’m right and you know it.”

“Okay, I’ll leave you two alone since you two are on good footing. Call if you need anything. Actually, he probably hasn’t ate anything. Why not try to make him something and see if he will repeat more words. It’s a good start,” Lutarna suggested.

Pulling her phone, she gave a small wave to the child.

“Bye sweetie. Auntie has to go for now. Be good for Papa, okay,” Lutarna hummed before looking at T with another smirk, “And behave yourself. I don’t want Gids calling up and telling me you lost him again.”

With a wave, Lutarna walked to another room to portal as to no spook the child.

Lutarna blinked before giving him a sour look.

“Am I?” she questioned before sighing.

“Okay, look, when you get a chance, get some of Vulture’s DNA. Run it, and if it comes up he has Vulture’s DNA as well, there is your answer. But I really think he is Wormy. It just adds up to me. But for now, just keep an eye on him,” Lutarna explained.

Giving the child a smile, Lutarna continued.

“Vocabulary is easy. Just show him stuff and encourage talking and pronunciation. Be patient and in time, he should be able to form sentences,” Lutarna encouraged.

“Like names for instant. Sweetie, can you say Pa-Pa?” Lutarna asked.

Lutarna grunted.

“My nephew likes this. It makes him giggle,” Lutarna huffed before putting the tentacle away as she saw T pick the child up.

Hear T’s explanation, Lutarna’s eyes went wide for a second before nodding.

“As I thought. I wasn’t sure how he would have gotten the DNA but since he bit you both, that explains it. T, as crazy as this might sound…I believe that child is Wormy,” Lutarna remarked, “As Ao stated, it’s in mid morph; using both of yours and Vulture’s DNA to make that body. Whether the bites were intentional or not, in theory, I believe it cause a chemical chain reaction which might be why it disappeared for a few days. A sense of intelligence grew to the point of using the DNA to start making a body. Hmm, I’m wondering if this is a common occurrence with the species that the child is. Quite fascinating. Though I wonder if there are others.”

Shrugging, Lutarna gives a smile.

“In any case, he seems to like you so I would keep an eye on him. Children cling to their parents when young. But also try to listen to him and help his vocabulary out,” Lutarna suggested.
